- The agreement will see Schaeffler and Tang Bearing providing a suite of advanced bearings, tools, and grease, combining Schaeffler’s technical expertise with GIM’s repair and maintenance capabilities to improve turbine reliability.
- The partnership builds on Schaeffler’s Partner program, focusing on deepening collaboration and driving growth through strengthened technical competencies and end-user solutions.
Schaeffler, the motion technology company, announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Green Innovation & Maintenance (GIM), a leading wind turbine service provider in Thailand, and Tang Bearing, a valued trading and technical partner. The strategic partnership aims to enhance maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for wind turbines in Thailand.
Under the agreement, Schaeffler and Tang Bearings will provide industry-leading products for the wind energy sector alongside technical trainings, including, but not limited to, main bearings, specialized tools, and premium grease, to support GIM’s maintenance operations.
The partnership comes as Schaeffler looks to strengthen its role as a key technical and service partner in Thailand’s wind sector while supporting GIM’s ambitions to advance its position within Thailand’s growing renewable energy industry.
Industrial organizations across the region continue to face challenges such as improper sensor mounting, inaccurate data collection, limited expertise, missed early warning signs, and escalating repair costs. These issues often divert internal teams from core business functions and threaten operational efficiency.
“This collaboration demonstrates our strong commitment to supporting Thailand’s renewable energy ambitions by delivering advanced technology solutions and expertise tailored to the wind sector,” said Pracharak Ittiwiboon, Head of Sales, Bearings & Industrial Solutions South East Asia.
“We are proud to partner with Schaeffler and Tang Bearing to enhance our capabilities in wind turbine maintenance. By combining GIM’s end-to-end maintanance services with Schaeffler’s technical expertise, and Tang Bearing’s reliable supply network, we are able to better deliver on Thailand’s renewable energy ambitions and provide additional value to our partners,” said, Emmanuel Abdie, Managing Director, Green Innovation & Maintenance.
“This partnership highlights the strength of cooperation between suppliers and technology experts in advancing Thailand’s wind energy sector. By facilitating Schaeffler’s advanced products and working closely with GIM, Tang Bearing remains committed to supporting the reliable operation and growth of Thailand’s renewable energy infrastructure,” said Sommai Alongkornwuttichai, Managing Director, Tang Bearing.
The MoU builds on the strong collaborative partnership between Schaeffler and Tang Bearings through Schaeffler’s Partner program. This program is designed to foster deeper collaboration with partners by enhancing technical competencies, strengthening joint development processes, and driving growth focused on end-user needs.
Additionally, Schaeffler brings over 30 years of experience as a development partner to the wind sector. Working closely with customers and suppliers throughout the entire value chain, Schaeffler ensures its products meet the exacting Schaeffler Wind Power Standard— an approach that the company has successfully established in the automotive and aerospace industries. Key elements include defined change management, strict quality monitoring, comprehensive documentation, selective supplier development, and coordinated, transparent processes.
Beyond its quality standards, Schaeffler offers additional reliability solutions, such as optimal component design using cutting-edge simulation and calculation software. For instance, Schaeffler’s LORC test rig—one of the world’s largest and most advanced for large-size bearings—enables testing of bearings up to 15 tons and 3.5 meters in diameter. Furthermore, Schaeffler provides comprehensive facilities for analysing and mitigating White Etching Cracks (WEC), a leading cause of bearing failure in wind turbines, along with condition monitoring technologies that help maximize equipment availability.
“This MoU marks a significant step in expanding our MRO capabilities for the renewable sector,” said David Nevin, President Bearings & Industrial Solutions Japan, South East Asia and Pacific. “Through close collaboration with trusted partners like GIM and Tang Bearing, we aim to be a key technological partner for renewable energy infrastructure and support our customers’ long-term success in this vital and evolving region.”
